Back to heat and humidity. Hooray! Had rain but sandwiched between hot sunny days. Went back in time and survived. Had Sat 20 March afternoon and Sun 21 March morning over again. No Deja Vous or Groundhog Day, crossed International Date Line and arrived before we left. Not sure if that makes it quickest flight on our trip? Pre-booked room at guesthouse, a hostel, other travellers, shared facilities, and budget price. Unfortunately another of my poor bed-for-the-night choices. Owners police it like hawks and are permanently annoyed. Very irritating! Strict rules not a problem, but constant surveillance too much. They’d bark orders, tell people off, and always be around. Couldn’t feel relaxed! One time told me microwave wasn’t working because I was using plastic container. Huh! Had to move. Found gem bungalow (Muri Shell Shop Bungalows), almost new and immaculate [photo]. Full mod con’s and upstairs mezzanine floor for kids’ bedroom [photo]. Bargain price too. Two minutes walk from best beach on island, Muri lagoon, where we’ve spent most our time [photo]. Not much else to do! Pre-empted this in Auckland by buying bag of books. Leala saw local Girl Guides’ book sale advertised in library. Went along, returned $5 lighter and twenty books heavier. Also turned a profit, local shop buys books for $3. Went to church first Sunday here. Felt obliged given guesthouse owner’s enthusiasm, group of us went. Singing is great, upbeat and enthusiastic. Real heart and soul vocals! Afterwards, invited for food and drinks with minister. Coconut scones delicious! Learnt there are 28 different stages when best to eat a coconut. Yesterday saw boat race event, teams competing in 12-man catamaran canoes. Kids excited and managed paddle in one at end of day [photo]. Also, today Ben’s swimsuit perished. Probably from over use! |
