Ouch! Ex-pen-sive. Bring back South East Asia. Was expecting price jump but still a shock. And shopping, huh! Some things more expensive than UK: basic white sliced loaf, £1.20; two litre carton of milk, over £1. Plus, no more eating out everyday. First morning’s brunch (we were late up!) made us realise that. Almost £8, more than we’d spend in a day in SE Asia. So looks like budget for Oz will be blown. Glad to be away from wet heat, though. Gorgeous dry heat. First day, constant sunshine and lovely breeze. Temperature gradually increasing. Radio said today reached 40.6°C. Ouch! Perhaps a little too hot. Been looking for a campervan. Hoped to get one cheaper, but £50 a day seems the going rate for a suitable van. Another sign of western society, road rage. Manic free-for-all roads of SE Asia not a sign, then couple days in, see bus driver give and take abuse on comparatively empty roads of Perth. Also, we’re back to bus drivers with attitude. Handed over $20 bill and got that ‘sod-off-mate’ look as it wasn’t the exact $3 he’d requested and he’d have to rummage round to find suitable change. And, before I’d got a handle on bus routes, used a taxi. So much for easier communication, and an English-speaking country. Couldn’t understand a word taxi driver said. Sounded like he might’ve been Scottish or maybe South African. Couldn’t tell. Embarrassing having to keep saying 'pardon'. Hoped he wouldn’t strike up conversation. He didn’t.
