25/01/2004 - Lovina, North Bali
We’re in heaven. According to Ben that is. More precisely we’re in a luxurious hotel of bungalows [photo] (most expensive in Indonesia so far!) in Lovina, on the North coast of Bali. Kids said we just have to stay here: swimming pool (of course!) [photo], animals, playground, games, and toys. Not ordinary toys though. These are big Little Man’s toys. First day, Ben wouldn’t leave the electric motorised car [photo], spent hours driving round, forwards, backwards, into things and around things. He loves it. He’s currently pedalling round the pool on a tandem tricycle. Although we’re soon expecting him to lose control and end up in the pool. We’ll see! There are also some dogs, big dogs, and the first pet dogs we’ve seen. Kids find them a bit too big and intimidating, and run to us when they want to ‘play’. Fortunately they’re not allowed in the pool, so the kids can dive in for a quick getaway. There’s also ducks, rabbits, and birds. Quite a little menagerie. Got up early this morning, before sunrise, and went on a local fishing boat [photo] to see the daily migration of Dolphins from one end of the bay to the other. Quite an amazing sight seeing them swim along [photo], sometimes looping out of the water, and a couple of times really close by the boat [photo]. The event can be seen as a bit comical at times, one boat spots a dolphin and loads of other boats jostle to get in front. But of course by then, most of the time, the dolphin has disappeared. Trying to get some photo’s was equally comical, someone shouts "Dolphin!", I turn round, point the camera, press the button, and all I get is empty sea bar some ripples as the dolphin’s gone back under. Managed to get a few though, from the 50 or more I took. Thank goodness for digital cameras, else would’ve had a couple wasted films. Overall a good 2 hours for GBP2 and were back in time for breakfast. |
