9/12/2003 - Cameron Highlands
In the high country of Malaysia, the Cameron Highlands, over 6000ft up. Unfortunately it’s the wet season and it’s like a drizzly, gray summer’s day in Britain. The thermometer reading is 68F but we’re feeling cold. The fleece jackets have come out, long trousers too, and today we’ve even donned the ponchos. The town we’re staying, Brinchang, is a disappointment; ugly, characterless concrete buildings. Feels similar to a ski resort when all the snow has gone. The area seems popular with Malaysians, a place they can see unfamiliar plants like roses(!) and taste strange fruits like a strawberry(!!) Visited a tea plantation this morning and had a gorgeous cuppa with slice of cake. And, after a sodden wet walk to a waterfall later, we treated ourselves to a Devonshire Cream Tea in an olde worlde hotel. Down to warmth tomorrow. |
