Leala's Email - Indonesia (27 Jan 2004)
Hi there! Hope you're all well. we're in Indonesia at the mo, we flew from Singapore to Bali for Christmas and it wasn't quite the paradise we quite expected because there is a lot of hassle from local people to buy things. There were Australian tourists absolutely everywhere! I met a really nice family from Japan, a girl called Emily (her Dad was from the UK) and her brother who was 1 year older than Ben, so we spent our time together on Christmas day and then on boxing day we went to a huge water park with slides and rides. For New Year we went to another island called Lombok, near Bali. It was much better than Bali because there weren't so many tourists and the beaches are unspolit. There were lots of rice paddies and a lot less buildings. People are very poor and there were hardly any places to shop apart from the capital city Mataram. We've also been to Java which is huge compared to Bali and Lombok. We flew to one of the main cities called Yogyakarta. It was really busy and there were lots of men who push people around in trishaws (like tricycles) we had a go in one and it was a really cheap way to see the city. We also went to a voclano called Mount Bromo. There were 249 steps that we had to climb up and a 20 minute walk to the crater rim, but we rode on horses, a lot easier. Anyway - it's very hot here and I need to go for a swim to cool down! I hope you're all ok! See you soon lots of love Leala xxx |
