Ben's New Zealand
I’m in a country called New Zealand, which is on the other side of the world. When you’re waking up I’m going to bed. The season is different too. Here it’s summer, although the weather hasn’t been very nice. I’ve had to wear my warm clothes, and haven’t been able to go swimming in the sea. It’s too cold! My sister did. She went swimming with dolphins. I wasn’t allowed and fell asleep. Lots of the people talk like us and look like us, but there are other people too, called the Maori. When the men dance they shout, poke their tongues out and bulge their eyes. It’s very scary! I had my birthday here, but not many people came to my party, just me, my mum, dad and sister. I had KFC and a chocolate cake with candles and got a Buzz Lightyear action figure. The countryside here is amazing, in places the ground seems alive. One place I went the ground was hot and it smelled disgusting, like rotten eggs. My dad said it wasn’t any of us, it’s volcanic gas from under the ground. I’ve seen huge rivers of ice, called Glaciers; fountains of water jetting from the ground, called Geysers; pools of mud that bubble up and go ‘glup’; and holes in the ground with steam coming out. Also there are mountains where there is snow and ice all the time and where I walked through a cloud. I couldn’t see very much! I’ve been camping in a tent. One day it broke and ripped because it was so windy. Another day it didn’t stop raining all day. Thankfully the tent worked. |
